BR Hills - A Nondescript hill station

Image
After the successful Goa trip in the beginning of 2014, it was time to hit a hill station to escape the simmering hot weather of March. My friend and I researched around for an hill station that is rather nondescript and can be reached within a days travel from Chennai, as it was planned as a weekend trip. We zeroed in on the BR hills (Biligiriranga Hills) near Mysore. BR hills can be reached by bus from Mysore, but the connectivity is not something to write about. It took the better part of Saturday to reach the destination.   It is a quaint little town with few accommodation options. So, book your accommodations well in advance. After checking-in and refreshing, we set out to explore the place. We went on a trek to spot any wildlife along with a spotter arranged by the resort we were staying. As we were drawing curtains to our trek, our spotter, a frail young local who was upbeat the whole time, suddenly panicked and started running without explaining the reason. We were una...

Looking back

This blog post is a serious attempt by me to get back to recording my thoughts and experiences after a gap of almost 3 years. Life has progressed at a very fast pace in the past 3 years. On looking back, I could see the following activities that occupy most of my time during this gap from my last blog post and now -  Travel Travel and  More travel At the beginning of 2014, I set myself a very personal goal, which is to travel the length and breadth of India. Having set myself the goal, I planned most of the trips to visit as many states as possible without breaking my bank account and jeopardizing my career - both of which were at their infancy back in 2014. Starting off my journey to conquer my goal, I planned my first trip with my pg buddies to the place that most Russians call their summer home, GOA.  It was a rollicking trip with 8 people staying in a dingy hotel that was in reality a stone throw distance from the calangute beach. Since for m...

Irresponsible DOW

It all happened one fine night on 3rd December,1984 in the city of Bhopal when the largest industrail disaster of all time took place.Nearly 42 tonnes of the deadly methyl isocyanate escaped the closed confines of the Union Carbide Chemicals company killing instantly 10000 innocent lives. The worst part of this disaster is that its after effects are still felt in the city where children are born with muscular atrophy, eye problems, respiratory difficulties, immune and neurological disorders 24 years have gone and still the Union carbide factory stands in its place acting as a testimony to that fateful night when thousands of dreams were quashed.Till now there has been no study made on the impact of the chemicals affecting the children in the city.Union Carbide the protagonist of the disaster still maintains its stand and proclaims that it has nothing to do with the disaster, if only they had provided adequate training and had maintained strict precautionary measures as follo...
